Oh, there will be blood. Plenty of it. Hell, the title pretty much promises it! Vince Vaughn stars as Bradley Thomas, a man who brings the pain as he brawls fellow inmates in a desperate murder plot to save his wife who’s being held hostage by a drug boss.
After playing a Los Angeles crime boss in the second season of True Detective, Vaughn returns to his darker inner self in Brawl in Cell Block 99, playing a bald boxer-turned-drug dealer with a cross tattooed on the back of his skull. You don’t fuck with this guy.
Of course, someone always does. A powerful drug kingpin is holding Vaugn’s wife hostage and threatens to kill their unborn child, unless he executes a murder contract behind bars. In order to do so, he has to break out of his medium-security block and into the maximum-security Red Leaf prison and from there into Block 99, which is dubbed “the prison within the prison.”
