Legendary New York mob boss John Gotti is taking over Cincinnati. The movie about his life is set to begin shooting on July 25 and has cast the Ohio city as its main décor as stand in for New York City, though filming will also take place on location in the Big Apple.
Seasoned actor John Travolta (Pulp Fiction, Saturday Night Fever) will take on the role of “Dapper Don” Gotti with actress Kelly Preston - Travolta’s real-life wife - playing the part of John Gotti’s better half. The film is directed by Kevin Connolly (Entourage,) who, according to Cincinnati.com, has already been spotted around the city by fans who shared their run-ins with the Hollywood star on social media.
Based on the book Shadow of My Father by Gotti’s son John “Junior,” the movie The Life and Death of John Gotti is currently in pre-production and set to begin shooting on July 25. Lionsgate Premiere plans to distribute the film in 2017.

The decision to shoot in Cincinnati is based, in part, on Ohio’s revised Motion Picture Tax Credit, intended to give producers more incentive to use the area’s architecture and pool of actors and crew.
But besides that, “The city proved to be a great character in Marauders, and we wanted that grittiness and substance in ‘Gotti’ and have it become part of the storyline,” Randall Emmett, the film’s producer, said in a press release.
