Good news for fans of Sons of Anarchy! Series creator Kurt Sutter is co-writing a script for a spinoff series based on the Mayans motorcycle club, the Latino rivals/partners-in-crime of the Sons of Anarchy MC. The series will air on FX Networks.

Elgin James will pen the pilot script with Sutter acting as producer. The series is intended to be a “dark, visceral family drama that takes a new look at the most American of icons, the 1% outlaw, this time reflected through a Latino lens,” FX states in a press release.

Sons of Anarchy was one of FX’ most popular series, running for seven seasons. Throughout the show, the Mayans had a recurring role in the storyline, starting out as fierce rivals and ending up as loyal friends and business partners. Comprised mostly of Mexican-Americans, the club was led by president Marcus Alvarez, played by actor Emilio Rivera.

The Mayans MC spinoff will not take place in California, according to reports.
