This girl was in way over her pretty little head. Actress Kate del Castillo made headlines last year when she – together with Hollywood actor Sean Penn – had a face-to-face meeting with Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the world’s most wanted drug lord. Now, she fears that the Mexican government has it in for her.

Well, duh.

In an interview with Univision weekly news program Aqui y Ahora, del Castillo, a U.S. citizen who resides in Los Angeles, believes Mexican authorities “are monitoring her phone conversations and text messages when she communicates with her family, friends and lawyers in Mexico.”

Well, again, duh.

One does not meet with anyone named on any most wanted fugitive list without coming under some sort of scrutiny. Furthermore, Mexican authorities suspect del Castillo of possible laundering money for Guzman, alleging she may have received funds from the fugitive drug lord to invest in her tequila brand. Del Castillo denies she ever received any money from El Chapo.

Despite her denial, Mexican prosecutors would still like a word with her when or if she ever returns to the country and said she would be detained for questioning upon entering Mexico.

This in turn leaves del Castillo fearful. A feeling she did not have when she met with Guzman in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trained killers armed with machine guns. Something that seems a bit ironic to say the least.
