As dark and gritty as the world of violent crime may get, it remains a brilliant source for jokes. Case in point: The Hitman’s Bodyguard, an action-packed comedy starring Samuel L. Jackson as a hitman who is assigned his former enemy - known as the world’s best bodyguard - played by Ryan Reynolds, to protect him.
Jackson’s hitman is set to testify at the International Court of Justice against an Eastern European dictator, played by Gary Oldman, and feels he, as a stone-cold killer, doesn’t need a bodyguard. Reynolds disagrees and takes it upon himself to protect his client at all costs and get him to court alive and well.
All the while, the squabbling pair is confronted with waves of bad guys coming at them with cars, bullets, and deadly intent.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard will hit theaters in the United States on August 18, 2017.
